Spinning FO: Bornite Mixed BFL

I am so proud of this handspun yarn. The colors make me happy.

Inspired by this post in the Hello Yarn Ravelry board, I separated the fiber into faux lags. Called faux because these are pre-drafted bites of roving. Special tools or fiber batts are not needed. There are plenty of videos in YouTube that demonstrate how to do this.

The fiber is BFL from Fiber Charmer in the Bornite colorway. I don't know how many wraps per inch the yarn is. Shhh, I haven't washed the skeins yet. So, technically this is not an FO! Forgive me this one and the tons to follow.

FO: Checkerboard Lace Scarf

It was about time for an FO post. This scarf was finished moons ago; I just took time today to weave ends and take pictures. The pattern is from Purl Soho. The yarn is Jojoland Melody and I used the pattern recommended US 7 (4.5mm) needles. 

This scarf is on the "Happy Endings" FO's list. I loved the process and even more the product. I think the checkerboard pattern will look amazing on a solid yarn as well.

The trip and the yarns

We spent a few good days in New York City. Can't complain of anything but a drastic transition of ending vacation on Monday to working long hours the next four days. Oh well, that job also pays for my wool.

In NYC, I visited the usual suspects--Knitty City, Purl Soho and Lion Brand Studio.

From Knitty City, I picked out my first Malabrigo roving. I've read that these rovings spin like a dream. Hopefully I can get enough yarn to make a shawl like these ones--all knitted with handspun yarn.

From Purl Soho, I got yarn for hats.  The skein of Purl Soho's Merino worsted weight yarn is for the warm hat that I desperately need. The Cascade Eco Due is for a gift. I am in between Graham or the Super Soft Merino Hat for these hats.

I couldn't leave the store without choosing my first Brooklyn Tweed Shelter yarn! I got two skeins with hopes that I can get a cowl out of them. We shall see.

From the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, I got yarn for a sweater.  Below are about 1220 yards of LB Collection Superwash Merino.

We ate yummy food at places like The Grey Dog and Empanada Mama. We walked miles and miles and had a great time. I can't wait to go back. There is something magical about Manhattan!

FO: Spinning

Learning to spin is still top in my bucket list. There is a lot to learn in my hand spinning future (as with knitting). But, I mark every skein of hand spun a victory rather than a setback. I guess these skeins are like children to me --not perfect but loved unconditionally.

Natural 100% Blue Faced Leicester from Fiber Charmer, a local dyer. I forgot to count the yardage but it ended up an Aran weight and is destiny is a hat.

Merino 21.5 microns from a dyer that is no longer in business. Thin a tick but for the most part 372 yards of worsted weight super bright yarn.

WIP: Julieta

I'm almost convinced that one can't go wrong with a cardigan designed by the amazing Cecily Glowik MacDonald. Add Quince & Co. yarns to the mix and I willing to bet on that.

I am enjoying knitting this cardigan! Is a special project as both, the pattern and yarn, were a gift from my husband. An out of the blue / no special occasion gift-- no less.

To continue with the "blue" theme, how about a portrait of a hungry toddler waiting for her lunch? She is a sweetheart when her stomach is full. She is my sunshine. To the moon and back!
